I am going to be as transparent as possible - no denial. I put out a series of tweets (now deleted) that many found deplorable and offensive. I apologize for causing hurt. (Pictures of the thread below)

For what it's worth (probably not much), my early career was based on criticism of US policy with regards to the laws of war (on torture of POWs) and arguing against the use of technology as some kind of "magical solution" to the problem of terrorism.

Over-reliance on technology and drone strikes is how you get "forever wars" because it precludes hard thinking about strategy - such as ending a conflict in Afghanistan that seems to be doing little other than killing thousands every year.

There is too much bad going on in the world and I feel worse for contributing to it. Time to reflect more broadly about my social media engagement and what I'm trying to achieve.
