Why Lampard doesn’t Prefer Jorginho?
[T H R E A D]
I've already talked about this and I'll once again speak about him. Jorginho is certainly one of the best players I've seen. I feel that he's massively underrated and I think Frank has never found a way to use his abilities.
This thread will breakdown each of his attribute.
Jorginho is a great long ball player and has a remarkable ability to control the play's tempo. Nobody really appreciates it. It was pretty evident in the Arsenal game where he was subbed on at 34th min and completely turned the game.
Its clear in this vid how he has been great at this play. But the main problem is that we don't have no players who can control a lob ball and finish it perfectly. We are just not good there.
Its a very tough skill to have. To chest it down and score under pressure. The only 2 players I think who played at chelsea and have the quality to do it is Diego Costa and Drogba.
So him controlling the play and looking for lob passes is not efficient for us.
Now, the question is how come his defensive stats are exceptional and still, we have conceded more goals
Its because he plays higher up the pitch.
Tackles
Kante Jorginho
Def 3rd 29 22
Mid 3rd 22 35
Att 3rd 7 12
Even though, Kante didnt play as DM most of the season, his tackles are better in defensive 3rd.
It matters a lot because our defence is extremely poor and can't hold a Highline because they aren't fast and defensively solid. So everytime our DM moves forward, there is a huge void in between the pitch that opposition easily exploits.
Sometimes, To fill the void, our defense needs to come a bit forward and eventually gets outpaced by the attackers. That’s one of the main reasons why we are extremely poor in counter-attacks.
I rather think its tactics' fault rather than Jorginho's. His ability to find players who make runs from the wings inevitably pushes him high up the pitch.
Obviously, he wants to use his strength effectively.
I truly feel Lampard needs to work on this. Arteta easily notices this flaw and forces Chelsea to create a void by dragging players out.
I think Lampard tried to mimic Liverpool and city’s tactic of pressing but its clear that it hasn’t worked well. Its just very easy to get outpaced in the midfield and create a big chance.
His ball recoveries and recoveries are great(means that to gain possession of the ball after it was lost due to some guy's wrong pass) but his recovery after being dribbled past is worse. Its because he's slow and he’s physically weak.
As a DM, Jorginho vs Sheffield is probably the worst game he had played. He wasn't able to make the tactical foul for the previous goal and for the 3rd goal, he just got outpaced easily. Clearly sums up his performance as a lone DM.
Jorginho’s off the ball movement is pretty poor. This makes the defence more susceptible to pressing. Him having a good partnership with Kovacic eventually looks much better as Kovacic's off the ball movement is exceptional and he helps the defense more.
Gilmour does a very good job here. His movement, constant looking over the shoulder and one touch passes makes him much comfortable for this role. Lampard genuinely admires that and hence, prefers him over J5.
Jorginho clocks 85 touches a game in PL. Its obvious that he likes to dictate the play, wants to spend more time on the ball and look for a through ball. Jorginho clearly sees himself as a regista and a decent big chance creator.
His goal sequence involvements clearly shows that.
But with havertz and ziyech coming in, it would be tough for him to get more time on the ball as both of them are very good playmakers. Players would eventually want to pass to ziyech rather than wait for wingers to make a run and let jorginho pass through the lines.
The fact that Lampard’s pressing tactic is hugely flawed that it's mostly counter-productive and mostly the blame goes towards Jorginho.
It has also happened with Kante.
Kante moves forward ▶️ this creates void ▶️ goal
Its evident that our fullbacks will make overlapping runs. The experience, defensive awareness and speed of our CBs is so bad that it will always result us being in terrible position if our DM moves up.
my opinion on Jorginho-
Tbh I've never seen him as CDM. I've always watched him as CM. I really think he should convert his position and play as a ball playing CM. He reminds me of Cesc Fabregas.
Both play some excellent through balls, both are slow, both are weak physically, both don't have the ability to shoot from long range and both are wonderful professionals and leaders.
His ability to defend would be very much handy as Midfielder to stop counter-attacks.
This wonderful performance against Liverpool easily sums up the entire thread.
Lampard making a decision of selling him early mutually benefits as he truly doesn't deserve any hate even though him being one of the best in his play.
