I think we're going about it all wrong.
We think voting BJP out == Ridding the society of communalism and casteism.
It's neither so simple nor will it work that way. Step 1 is to vote them out, only then can we move to Step 2 - trying to improve & fix the fissures in society.

A lot of people have held the biases and somewhat problematic views for a long time, it's just now speaking out hateful things is normalized. Until that situation is not changed, we cannot hope to introduce structural changes as the above thread mentions. 2/
What does that entail? First off, let's stop cancelling people at the first chance we get. If we want a change in governance, it'll only happen if enough people vote for it. That includes the people we're so ready to cancel (not just Twitter but also IRL) 3/
Engage with people, on topics that they are led to believe we're doing amazing. Economy. GDP. Employment. Farmers loans. Transparency. RTI. Corruption. National security. Fudging numbers. Data privacy. 4/
Yes we have people who are Islamophobic, we have people who are staunchly casteist, but are they willing to watch their kids without jobs or have their life savings frozen in a bank?
I don't think so. Not the majority anyway. That's where we have the scope to change opinions. 5/5
