In news that should shock nobody, I am all in on Raised by Wolves.
Ridley Scott, showrunner Aaron Guzikowski, and the rest of the team are throwing a LOT of intetesting concepts at the screen here and I can& #39;t wait to continue to watch them develop over the next few weeks. It isn& #39;t perfect but hey, what is?
Mother, the android "Necromancer," is about as Ridley Scott as it gets (especially 2010s Ridley Scott). The Mithraic aesthetic is pure Moebius.
Father& #39;s got dad jokes.
Raised by Wolves, at least in its first few episodes, represents the center point of a venn diagram where the Alien prequels, Blade Runner, and Ridley& #39;s historical epics meet.
Also worth pointing out that this show was not made for HBO Max, but rather, for TNT. That it can visually hold its own against HBO& #39;s other shows (and against feature films) on a cable budget is a testament to the filmmakers.
Anyways, this is probably going to be hit or miss depending on who is watching, and that& #39;s fine. It is a hit for me so far, and I really appreciate that it isn& #39;t really trying to be "for" any one audience in particular.
Now, if only there was a way for me to get my hands on one of those Mother/Necromancer miniatures that they put in the press kits.... https://twitter.com/SFXmagazine/status/1300819788172853250?s=19">https://twitter.com/SFXmagazi...
If you do like the Alien prequels, definitely check this out. You can tell that it is operating in the same mode and thematically carrying over a few of those core ideas while applying them to a totally new world and narrative.
Also also (I keep "Also"-ing this thread, huh?) the beach ball thing growing into the igloo is cool.
