It’s so hard. I’m still recovering after being homeless. There’s so many things you have to replace that you don’t even think about. I’m coming on a full year later. I still have things I need and haven’t been able to replace.
But so much of me getting out of being homeless was luck. Straight up. And nobody deserves to be homeless. Everybody deserves to keep their dignity.
And not everyone who works at homeless shelters does so bc they want to. Many of them look down on and talk to them like they’re not still people. Hell I had the cops called on me for allegedly loitering in a shelter parking lot. By a black man 🥴
But back to this thread. Being homeless isn’t something anyone wants for themselves. And there’s still so much help people need once they’re on their way to being out of it.
Just bc you land a job doesn’t mean the needs stop. You still need money getting back and forth to work if you have a commute. You still need food. And shelter. You still have to save until you can afford rent.
