A thread on 4m defenders . As always in FPL we are trying to find that 4m gem. The one player, that lets us, have all the top shelf goodies. I have done some research on the three most popular 4m defenders Bernardo (Brighton )12.3% owned. Douglas (leeds) 16% owned

Branthwaite (Everton ) 5.7% owned .This thread will discuss Bernardo. A Douglas and Branthwaite thread will come later.

Bernardo: 25 year old Brazilian ( never a bad thing to be). Plays left/right DEF and CM. I even saw that he had played one game at centre back.

Being 186cm he qualifies. Brighton paid £10 million for him two seasons ago from RB Leipzig. Where he played 40 games including 3 in the Champions league !! It is fair to say that there were high hopes for him.

Game Time

He played 22 games in 2018/2019 and 14 last season . Under the previous manger Chris Houghton, it seemed that he had cemented his place (18/19) Things were looking good for Bernardo . However Under new leadership (19/20)Graham Potter . Life took a down-turn !!

Bernardo started the first game and then got injured (Knee) . After returning from injury in November, he was playing regularly at left back. However after Brighton conceded 6 goals over two games at the end of January, he was droppped.

Re-start
Bernardo was not even in the squad for the first 3 games during the re-start . After that he started in one ( Man City they lost 5-0) then on the bench for the rest. Being brought on 3 times.

Brighton have so far played one friendly, Bernardo did not start but was introduced after 60min.

Transfer Talk
There is quite of lot of interest in him. There is talk of loan deals to either Istanbul Badakesehir ( Turkish champions ) Newcastle, West Ham.

Verdict - Bernardo is an interesting one. I believe that is highly rated in the football world. Though Potter looks to have lost faith. Especially since he prefers to play Burn ( right footed CB) over him at left back !!At the age of 25 and having previously played in the CL .

I think he will be demanding to play football. Fingers crossed that he will get a loan to either Newcastle or Everton. I fully believe he would be 1st choice there . If he stays at Brighton, i still reckon he will get minutes but would have to play very well to be a regular

Has it stands he is my 5th defender . One to keep an eye on .
