Fun to hear that UGA’s now encouraging sick students, exposed due to the university’s irresponsible policies, to go back home. No shit, Athens doesn’t have the healthcare capacity to handle the predictable repercussions of reopening. That’s why we told y’all to stay closed.
This is how you propagate outbreaks in even more rural areas, @universityofga, and it’s fucking unacceptable. Everyone told you this would happen, and you reopened anyways, and now people are going to die because of your shit policies.
Yep. So UGA could easily get off the hook for massively escalating case counts. https://twitter.com/kjmdphd/status/1301553668513304576
Students I know have already returned home after testing positive. What happens when they expose family members? What happens if those family members don’t have the financial luxury of complying with quarantine? Did UGA ever seriously consider what this would cost in human lives?
A cool fact: students who test positive are told that they’ll have to contact their instructors and inform them. That really, *really* should not be something you put on your students, @universityofga.
You can’t expect sick, isolated teenagers to reliably personally inform their instructors that they’ve contacted a virus that your messaging blamed them in advance for contracting, @universityofga. That’s pretty rudimentary public health. https://twitter.com/isabelott/status/1301910832020951040
Love to hear from an actively febrile, SARS-CoV-2 positive UGA student that, in between incredibly confusing emails from @universityofga regarding what they should actually be doing, they’re still getting @GeorgiaFootball student ticket promotional emails. Fucking hell.
