What did you do last summer? For me, it was completing the @SPIprogram final report with @kcpolice. @AndrewFox24 Bridgette & I are grateful for all of the assistance from KCPD @CNA_org Tom Keri Chris & @DeckerCrime 1/
Question: Can police reduce crime in violent micro hot spots by implementing a social Network-Based Intervention (NBI)? 2/
NBI = offender-focused approach involving identification of criminal social networks in a geographic area w/ the purpose of strategically interrupting the dynamics of the network through targeted enforcement, diversion, or other actions designed to discourage further crime 3/

What worked? NBI hot spots had
priority calls for service, Total Net Effect = 4 fewer per week. Network structure altered signif due to intervention. Violent networks became less dense. No displacement of crime or calls for service 5/

What didn’t? Crime in hot spots mostly unchanged. Network density seemed to return to normal after 1 yr 6/
What’s promising: Police & community partners can impact hot spots without signif
enforcement in hot spots by strategically focusing on offenders central to violent networks. But more refining of NBI is needed for sustainability 7/
