Thinking about how overwhelmingly awkward Rey and Ben would have been after Exegol, returning to the Resistance together.

Rey, feral and angry at so many things, would clench her jaw and DEMAND that they put Ben in a bacta suit, because she'd just hauled this 220 pound man out of the rubble of the Cathedral herself after he collapsed, nearly giving too much of himself to her.

And he heals, and suddenly they're around each other all the time, which is exactly what they want, but they're also around

And neither of them have had to interact with one another around people since Snoke, and he's dead.

Finn would watch Rey fussing over Ben in his hospital bed with narrowed eyes and a suspicious heart, confronting Rey about her obvious mind control, and she'd yell at him that he has no idea what he's talking about and that Ben has never forced her to do anything.

They'd speak in hushed tones, heads bent close together, until other people came in and interrupted them and they'd stammer out apologies and run in opposite directions

Finn would talk to Rose, saying, "I know something about him that no one else except Rey knows, and I'm afraid he'll hurt her."

And Rose would laugh at him and say, "If anyone should be afraid, its Ben. Rey can handle herself."

So Finn would watch and observe and see the way they both blush and tuck their tails when someone else talks to them together, and he'd keep his mouth shut.

Ben would lie awake in a bunk entirely too small for him, staring at the ceiling for nights on end because he can't sleep.

Until one night, Rey barges in in her sleep clothes, grumbling to him about how she "can't sleep with with the way his mind keeps running."

And Ben stumble over an apology until he loses his voice completely, because she's climbing into that too small bunk and draping herself across him and saying, "Go to sleep. I'm literally begging."

It isn't sexual. But its warm and intimate and Ben hasn't had this in his entire life, so he wraps his arms around her and breathes in her scent and finally sleeps.

And the next day when Rose asks Rey why she wasn't in her bunk that morning, Rey and Ben don't speak to her or each other, just turn and walk away to opposite ends of the base.

But Rey would crawl into his bed that night all the same
