i have a weird relationship with the word "material." every reading i love uses it, but when ppl say it I flinch. idk idk idk
honestly i'm probably just tired of one particular phrase "material consequences." yes. mhm. because i know immaterial feels like the opposite to me, but we don't talk about immaterial consequences enough? immaterial can also mean inconsequential which is why we may avoid.
yet immaterial can also mean not physical, but spiritual. AND HONESTLY some of the "material consequences" that are being discussed have spiritual consequences, as well.
Isn't it possible to unearth the ways that norms, histories, discourses are harmful spiritually? Especially thinking about how my ppl always say "that didn't sit right with my spirit."
Is that an immaterial consequence?
