Regarding giving Octavia her laurels in life, she died lonely, prematurely, having struggled financially most of her career:

"Myisha Priest’s 2008 essay 'Salvation Is the Issue' documents the early and unnatural deaths of black women writers and activists in the 20th century"
From 'Octavia E. Butler and Black Women's Archives at the End of the World / Author(s): Phoenix Alexander
Source: Science Fiction Studies , Vol. 46, No. 2 (July 2019), pp. 342-357
I chastise platforms for being ahistorical about the ways Black women visionaries are supported in life because too many Black women artists are praised posthumously for being prescient and innovative while receiving little support as they struggled to survive.
"Black women will save us"

But we won't save them in return.
There is a yawning, gaping schism between what you people say vs what you do when it comes to Black women you claim to value.
...and whew...god bless the ones you don't even pretend to care about.
