Since the very comfortable Blue Checks are out in force blaming marginalized people for Biden’s continuing drop in the polls, let’s, once & for all, put to rest this notion that those of us who will not vote for Biden or Trump are somehow privileged.
The vast majority of non-voters are POC and all nonvoters tend to be less educated, poorer, and younger. 38% of nonvoters are not confident that elections represent the will of the people, and non-voters are more likely to say that this is because the system is rigged.
Nationally, nonvoters would add about equal numbers to Dems & the GOP in the general election, but there are key differences across swing states, and nonvoters in PA, MI & WI tend to lean toward supporting Trump. The reason: trade deals that Dems support have taken their jobs.
And the No. 1 reason these people say they don’t vote? Disliking the candidates the parties foist on them, followed by assuming their vote wouldn’t make a difference.

But what about us third-party voters? Surely we’re privileged, right? In a word, no.
In the 2007 Nader documentary, “An Unreasonable Man,” the snooty neoliberal pundit, Eric Alterman, derides Nader voters as “people who don’t understand politics,” or who “think politics is therapy.” He couldn’t be further from the truth.
Firstly, 3rd-party voters tend to MORE informed on politics, which is why we see both major parties as dead-end streets. We are very aware that Trump is an awful president, the difference is that we are also aware that Trump is only using the tools Neolibs like Biden gave him.
It’s just common sense to know that females & younger voters are far less privileged, systemically & financially, than older voters & males. Are there exceptions? Sure. But we’re still, as a group, far less privileged than Clinton voters were. https://m.huffpost.com/us/entry/us_11769762
The problem with Blue Checks is that they firmly believe Biden is better than Trump & he’s our only hope to oust Trump. All this shows is that they don’t think critically.
They also think you don’t know Trump is a con man who has already ruined lives. We know.
The problem is that neither candidate plans to do enough or anything about #ClimateChange, #IncomeInequality, lack of access to healthcare & sustainability during a pandemic.
All these issues effect those of us who are less privileged harder than those who aren’t, which is why they’re of the utmost importance to us. This is our lives on the line - not a football game.
If the Dem Party wants to be the new rightwing, corporate party, fine, but that means us average people need a party that will represent us & that’s neither of the two major parties.
If voting third-party will hasten the demise of one of the two existing rightwing parties, so be it. We need one of them gone (as long as we need 270 ECs to win the presidency), so a populist progressive party can take the place of one of them.
