Inner sanctum is situated inside a cave carved in rock.
Courtyard has monolithic sculptures-Suryapana & Chandrapana-each consisting of a massive disc atop a supporting pillar.2 more pillars with trishul & Damaru.

The history of this temple is believed to be dated back to the 9th century.Rishi Gowthama & Bharatwaja worshipped here. Later in 16th century, Kempegowda I-renovated& extended this temple.Water flows inside garbha gudi all year, giving the Shiva the name Gavi Gangadhareshwara
