THREAD: Girls have always looked up to Disney Princesses while growing up, but what if you found out there are queens in real life who can be great role models? Meet Saint Margaret, Queen of Scotland (1045-1093).
She grew up in Hungary and later on moved back to England and then Scotland where she married Malcolm III. She was a very pious Roman Catholic known best for her charity. As a wife, she often read the Bible to her husband and influenced her children to be just and holy rulers.
She spent much of her time serving orphans and the poor; even washing their feet. She also spent much of her time in prayer and was such an inspiration to her husband, who was illiterate: he commissioned books of gold and silver for her as a show of his admiration.
She passed away in grief in 1093, 3 days after her husband and son were killed in a war against the English. Pope Innocent IV canonized her in 1250 for her many works beyond mentioned in this thread and for her faith. To this day, many institutions are named after her.
An exemplary figure for her faith and duty to husband and children, St. Margaret's life is worth learning about as fellow girls. Even after almost 1000 years, her legacy is still strong and relevant.
