I figure everyone needs a laugh these days so I've decided to show you all, probably my most horrifying/hilarious gaffe during my career at The Telegram. It's a lesson to EVERY journalist/photojournalist to NOT EVER submit copy that you DON'T want published.

I submitted this photo with a joke caption (for an internal newsroom laugh) and a serious caption for our Saturday paper with the biggest circulation. You can probably see where this is headed.

Unfortunately, the copy editor at the time published the photo and joke caption instead. Needless to say I got a couple of unpaid days off and our editor at the time (may he rest in peace) was off a bit longer because, well, he shouldn’t have let it get through.

Needless to say our newsroom got calls-from people who thought we were nuts to some who actually thought it was serious and were worried about their safety. I’ve been chided by colleagues about this picture my entire career so everyone else might as well enjoy it too. Anyways....
