Challenging some willing souls to memorize Ephesians 2. Why?
1) It’s clear gospel. A masterpiece penned so beautifully-dare I say rhythmically-that parts read like poetry.
2) We’re losing our ability to concentrate in this avalanche of chaos. If we don’t push back, it’ll bury us.
Few of us saw all this upheaval & isolation lasting this long. We were understandably consumed by it & we submerged ourselves in it. But this chaos isn’t going to end soon. Yes, must be informed but that’s not what’s happening here. We’re being CONformed to this unhinged culture.
If we have the same fears,
the same fights,
the same hate,
the same misery,
the same side-taking,
stone-throwing,
out-lashing,
violence,
the same near-sightedness, madness, chaos and the same banner-waving over mere humans who cannot save,
where on earth is our witness?
TAKE YOUR MIND BACK. We can stay informed on the world without being conformed to the world. But I promise you this: we will not do it accidentally. Addictions die hard. We are transformed by the renewing of our minds. Nobody can take back your mind but you. Do it in Jesus’ name.
Ok, I can’t stay on much longer for this AM because I have to get to work but some of you are jumping in and I’m so happy. So here are a few tips:
1. Ask the Lord repeatedly to give you the unction to memorize his word.
2. Do not separate the process from Him. Do it with Him.->
When I recite my memory work, I recite it straight to him. I say things like, “Lord, help me remember these words and phrases.” “Lord, this is so gorgeous.” “Lord, I’m getting frustrated here. I can’t remember the next part. Remind me!” I engage with God in it. Helps greatly.
3. You need a way to take the Scriptures with you on walks, in the car, etc. I have used spiral index cards numerous times for chapters & put 1 verse on each card. But this is the way I mostly do it. I print out the whole thing & have it laminated. I take a few verses at a time.
I read the verses aloud a number of times and then I start looking away and trying to say the phrases from memory. There’s no real shortcut to it but there is a real key to it: enjoying the process and not just the result. Ask God to give you such a love for Scripture. He will!
