i thought abt it and thought i should share instances where i personally felt threatened/unsafe/badly effected/idk you’ll understand, for being a christian in Egypt, here we go(u can add ur experiences if u want to) https://twitter.com/notjoannaayman/status/1301155983075561472
1.when my friends&i were cussed out&followed by a middle aged guy that acc threatened to physically hurt us bec we were drinking water in the street during ramadan (we had fasted for 9 hrs earlier for mass so we were really thirsty).
2.when my mom went out of church to find her car’s passenger window smashed in with blood all over the front seat and the cross we had hanging snatched and thrown on the ground :)
3.the day during my school’s morning lines when we had to stand 2 minutes in silence mourning the death of a 10 year old girl that went to our school who died during one of the church bombings.
4.when an exfriend/situationship send me a yt video titled “Sheikh___ destroys christianity for 15 minutes” and spent almost a week telling me i should convert to avoid hell&being hurt by the public even after i told him multiple times i felt uncomfortable/unsafe talking abt it
5.when my friends and i were literal children (7/8) and we used to play a game of guessing which church(or atleast in which area) is getting bombed that christmas/easter (looking back that was really fed i cant believe that was so normal to us as kids)
6.during the 2011/13 revolution when my catholic school used to get threats and we had to remove the school’s name name on the bus and close all the curtains going to&from school so we wouldn’t be recognized and targeted (i was a kid&would cry bec of how scary it was)
7.all the times when we were kids and muslim girls in school came up to me&thought they were doing my a favor by telling me that i should convert because my parents told them christians go to hell (also again,i went to a CATHOLIC SCHOOl) so they had to ban religion talks @ school
8. In 2013 when i was 11 yo and used to beg my mom to stop playing hymns and remove the cross from our car because i was scared we were going to get killed :)
ps. Despite these experiences i still have to say that I’m privileged/lucky enough to the point where i personally never lost someone to bec of this but sadly that’s not the case for all christians in egypt and u can read more abt it in this thread https://twitter.com/a7ahatt/status/1291010533064355840?s=21
