We have advanced degrees, and I can get an artist visa in a few countries that will allow the husbeast and kid #2 to join me. Kid #1 is already planning to apply to grad school outside the US. My ancestors didn't have a choice about coming here, but we have a choice about staying https://twitter.com/erinbiba/status/1301348569270681605
I get what people are saying about privilege but as someone who was calling out the big red flags for the last 10 + years? We made choices in those years geared towards exactly this possibility. We would like to let kid #2 finish high school here. But if we can't? Oh well.
Enough of my ancestors suffered and died for this country. Whatever debt you think Black Americans might owe is outweighed by what America owes us. At some point "stay and fight" speeches are coming from the faces of people who are not going to be the targets.
"You're abandoning people" sends me because I wish folks had that same energy towards the marginalized communities that have been the targets of white supremacy for...well...all of America's history.
