The Chairman of the @Facebook Election Commission announced new rules for the 2020 election, including a quiet period with no new political ads a week before Election Day: https://m.facebook.com/zuck/posts/10112270823363411
@finkd signaled he is expecting a disputed result.
Facebook will block new political & issue ads a week before the election — but won’t limit or ban microtargeting before or after. (Self-regulation lets them make these choices.)
Facebook will limit forwarding on @messenger to 1 recipient & expand voter suppression politicies to “implicit misrepresentations” about voting.

TBD if they apply that to POTUS or his campaign, who disinforms the public regularly.
Facebook will remove posts that claims people will get #COVID19 if they take part in voting but label candidate or campaign posts claiming victory before the results are in.

Gosh, who’d do that?

“There is nothing illegitimate about not having results on Election Night”- @finkd
Facebook will add a label to content that seeks to delegitimize the outcome of the election or legitimacy of voting methods.

I’d like to see it; will they use red? Mask the post or limit reach, like @Twitter?

TBD how successful Facebook will be limiting QAnon & militia activity
While @Facebook’s new election policies are more responsive to the moment, they didn’t ban microtargeting: https://galley.cjr.org/public/conversations/-LyZS-evTNJ6f_5I7lId
The US should be leading the world in regulations, not leave it to companies to decide where, when & how when power & influence is used or disclosed.
