Remembering when Cuomo vetoed a relatively tiny $5million tax incentive program for women and minority filmmakers, while he approves, every year, a $420mil/yr film&TV incentive program to white-male billionaires https://twitter.com/evie4us/status/1301476453243027456">https://twitter.com/evie4us/s...
The film&TV tax incentive programs are the biggest scam going. I’m a crew member working in the industry for 15 years. It’s a massive racket. $420mil/yr to our white male billionaire employers who abuse us, and meanwhile Cuomo does THIS https://deadline.com/2017/12/new-york-veto-tv-diversity-tax-credit-bill-andrew-cuomo-1202229947/">https://deadline.com/2017/12/n...
This is the only article anyone needs to read about the film&TV incentive programs(which exist in a dozen+ states). NEW YORK gives our billionaire employers $420mil/year, the most of any state. https://www.villagevoice.com/2017/10/11/new-york-is-throwing-money-at-film-shoots-but-who-benefits/">https://www.villagevoice.com/2017/10/1...
And while New York gives the most film&TV tax incentives of any state, the white male billionaires are, of course, CUOMO’s(and Biden for that matter) biggest donors. “Liberal Hollywood” at its finest https://deadline.com/2017/11/andrew-cuomo-hollywood-fundraiser-bob-iger-jeff-shell-les-moonves-2020-1202208117/amp/">https://deadline.com/2017/11/a...
And here is a wikileaks e-mail from a Sony Vice President urging others to donate to Cuomo specifically because “he is a strong protector of the (tax incentive ) program... despite recent criticisms”
Our white male billionaire employers get $420mil/year in film&TV tax incentives from New York while those of us who are crew members are forced to work industry-standard 12-14+ hour days, no paid family leave, no vacation/holiday pay, oh yeah, and THIS is in our contracts #1U
and our billionaire film&TV employers not only own Cuomo, they own our Union “leaders” who have *us* as members lobby for these corporate welfare incentive programs, all while they do nothing about aforementioned 12-14+ hour days or lack of PFML/Paid Sick Days. #1U #RankAndFile
They say these film&TV incentive programs “create jobs”. No, they simply move jobs from State to State, and workers “chase the incentives”. All while manipulating the “jobs” numbers and counting a single day of work as a “job”. It is THE ultimate corporate welfare racket
. @rontkim - @yuhline - @JuliaCarmel__ - @Biaggi4NY - @em4assembly - @JabariBrisport - @RachelMayNY - @NYSenate please read this thread re: film&TV incentive programs. I put myself at great risk(as a crew member) by saying all of this. It’s all true.
