The USA has charged Julian Assange with espionage for @Wikileaks publishing info of possible war crimes by US forces. The Espionage Act must not be weaponized to punish or silence those who reveal wrongdoing by the US or other states. The public has a right to know.

Assange is imprisoned in the UK at Belmarsh, a high security prison, pending a US extradition request. He is physically and psychologically diminished due to the US’s relentless pursuit & the UK’s complicity in his detention. Bail has been denied despite the risk of COVID-19.

Extradition proceedings resume in full on 7 Sep. If extradited to the US, Assange will face a real risk that his prison conditions could amount to torture and other ill-treatment, including prolonged solitary confinement. His right to fair trial is also at risk.
