In his tour of Inner Mongolia and neighbouring Ningxia which ended yesterday, Beijing’s security tsar Zhao Kezhi ordered police from both ethnic minority regions to “severely clamp down on domestic and foreign forces that carry out infiltration and sabotage”.
Inner Mongolian police have started using facial recognition technology to seek protesters. A screen shot on Chinese social media:
Bu Xiaolin, the second most senior Communist official in Inner Mongolia, on Tuesday called the language policy an “important political mission” and a priority for Xi Jinping to promote Mandarin language in schools for ethnic minorities since 2012 when Xi became party secretary.
Bu comes from a prominent Mongol family. Her grandfather, Ulanhu, was founding chairman of Inner Mongolia autonomous region (thus his nickname Mongolian King) and vice president of China. While studying in Moscow, his classmates included Deng Xiaoping and Chiang Kai-shek’s son.
Very interesting stuff on the connection between Xi's and Bu's family by @JosephTorigian https://twitter.com/JosephTorigian/status/1301504442488029184?s=20
