There seems to be a common theme throughout so many papers at #PHPI2020 which concerns individuals performing and tailoring communication in different settings. We are all from different backgrounds but seeing these recurring themes is so fascinating!
I found @georgi_gill’s points in the Panel 2 Q&A really interesting in this respect - MS patients feeling different communicative power dynamics in different social settings, which therefore alters their ability/desire to discuss certain topics.
@kristinwh0’s oral history work on accessing contraception in the 70s, and @petertuka’s work on the Normalization period in former Czechoslovakia also relate to the powerful nature of individuals making calculated choices in what they communicate and to whom.
I think this all ties in very nicely to the overarching theme of the conference - ‘Public Health, Private Illness’ - as communication in public vs. private settings, in a variety of different situations, shapes both experience and society #phpi2020
