i'm going to say the following as a fan of twenty one pilots who has also slightly waned in recent years, and a mental health/suicide awareness advocate.
thank you tyler joseph for raising awareness of america's national suicide awareness month. i hope you keep that same energy for world suicide awareness day on september 10th. but, using mental health as a scapegoat is not it and puts a huge damper on the actual cause.
you've managed to completely undermine the hard work of organisations and a cause that has been happening since 2003 by suggesting its some sort of competition. sure, it's good to knuckle down on things you care about but the lack of awareness is astounding.
you're allowed to care about people in whole amounts. you're allowed to care about multiple causes. your platform tweet was insensitive. call it what it was. end of story. your following tweets come across as manipulative and gaslight-y.T
just because you have a platform, doesn't mean you have to use it, but you need to accept people will ask you to. it comes with the territory. it's okay to be human but the world is in chaos and seemingly telling your fans that doesn't matter to you is worse than staying silent.
