You've probably heard that story about Ben Franklin walking out of the Constitutional Convention, responding to a question of what sort of government was created with "A republic, if you can keep it." But you probably don't know the rest of the story...
Turns out Ben was FURIOUS following the outcome of the Convention. Due to his over-inflated ego, he expected to be named Emperor of the newly independent nation (which he wanted to call Benjaminfrankland). His famous quip was actually a threat as others would soon realize.
Ever wonder why, of all things, Ben tied a KEY to a kite in an electrical storm? A lot of artists paint it as an old timey skeleton key, but, in reality, it was a device designed to open a portal into a parallel universe where Ben hoped to recruit super soldiers.
Realizing that it would take time to find his ideal parallel universe, Ben also began work on other schemes, including training sleeper agents who could have their programming triggered by what seemed to be a musical instrument actually invented by Ben for the purpose.
Long the media magnate, Ben used his media empire to hide his machinations from the public. For all of his cunning, though, Franklin couldn't ultimately outwit death (although he tried and succeeded several times previously) and his plot died with him in 1790.
