I finally finished P5R at the 145 hour mark. Feel free to make fun of me for taking so long.
Also, I don't know if it's the Post-Persona depression... or if I'm really unsatisfied with the true ending... I might share my thoughts on it here later, once I've gathered them.

Aight, I'm gunna spill my thoughts on P5R and its ending here in a bit. I'd love to do it spoiler free but I want to get into the fine details, so... P5R Spoilers incoming. Please mute this conversation if you're not into those.
First off: Overall, I enjoyed P5R's additions! The third semester didn't quite live up to my hopes of having a ton of new PT antics, but it brought P5's moral into a fitting and much more thoughtful direction than the simple right and wrong of vanilla.
Maruki's ideals were understandable. Create a perfect world where everyone could be endlessly happy. It caught me debating if the PTs were on the right side of morality. Vanilla never made me question that to the same extent....
So why did I feel it was lacking in the end? I think it's pretty simple, and mostly in the details. There were a lot of little expectations set up, that I feel didn't get a proper payoff. Those were: Akechi's fate, Maruki's change of heart, and in some ways the PT's last goodbye.
Now I can't believe I'm saying this because I used to hate him, but I wanted more from Akechi. The game makes you believe he's going to die again. So what are his last words? Does he fade away angstily?
Nah dawg, he's just f**kin dead now. or as the crew put it he's "..."

In the same vain, the PTs often talk of farewell parties which really unfortunately you never actually see. The farewells you do see are simple dialogues you run around and find. No final hurrah or group sorrows are shared on screen. It's sad, because that's what I wanted most
Where vanilla players expected to find that last hurrah, in the final cutscene was sidestepped as well. They're all in a van waiting for Joker, but oh no! the cops are watching us do nothing illegal! Thankfully Maruki's here to save the day because he's a taxi driver now I guess
The vanilla end cutscene was cliche. But it felt *good* and the P5R version simply didn't match that emotional payoff. I don't think Maruki needed to be inserted in it to wrap up his arc. He could have easily been one of the many dialogues that took place before the end cutscene
The very final scene: I'm sure a lot of people enjoyed the openness... but I don't like cliffhangers. I don't like that Akechi's fate is still unknown now and I don't like that it suggested the metaverse still exists, when a "sequel" is most likely to be a spin-off. But that's me
Anyway... despite my rant, I still enjoyed P5R and its ending as whole. I didn't get the payoff I wanted... but that's kind of in line with the theme isn't it?
I'll leave this rant here for a bit but my profile is a mess now, so might delete it later.
