LGBTQ+ people are tortured and put into jail and a lot of the times killed in these theocratic countries, trying to hide that and ignore what we're going through because you're too scared of looking islamphobic is not okay

very valid criticisms of islam, the same criticisms people have against christianity might i add, are often brushed off as islamphobia or xenophobia, maybe the religion isn't inherently homophobic but it has been weaponized and used as an excuse to literally murder LGBTQ+ people

and if you think that i'm making it a bigger deal than it actually is you're deluding yourself. in 2017, after a group of people held up a pride flag during a concert in egypt, they got tracked down and thrown into prison, they were getting beaten up, electrocuted, and raped.

all that for waving a fucking rainbow. you don't even need to be LGBTQ+ to get subjected to this sort of abuse, you just need to associate yourself with them. does this mean all muslims are bad? absolutely not. does this mean the systematic issues in muslim countries cannot be+

cannot be criticized? also no. if you're only talking about what everyone else is talking about but scared of saying something of actual substance because you don't wanna come off as "controversial". you are being performative and a straight up hypocrite

and i'm really angry. i'm angry because me and my friends are in danger 24/7 and you lot are too much of piss babies to say something not everyone is going to agree with. i'm angry because you only start to care when something is happening in europe/america.

and like any other religion, islam is not free of criticism and saying that doesn't give you the right to be a bigot towards muslims just like being muslim doesn't give you the right to be homophobe. it'd be a hell of a lot easier if we can actually acknowledge that.
