here's some @naval style tweets but for music making: https://twitter.com/RAC/status/1301307068981231618
stay out of the way of the vocal, it's about the song, not your studio tricks.
be yourself, it'll be harder to build an audience but you'll be happier and your fans will love you for who you are.
chasing trends is for losers, you'll always be late and unoriginal.
don't write for playlisting, there's a million artists with a million plays and nobody wants to see them play a show.
if you're not proud of your own work, why would anybody else be?
don't listen to A&Rs.
if somebody offers you money upfront, question why they don't give you ownership.
value your time, don't let people waste it.

recoupable advance means YOUR WORK needs to make 150%+ to break even.
major label advances are effectively buyouts. that is ok, but know what you're getting into.
360 deal? run.
YOU are creating value.
music has value.
recorded music has value.
live music has value.
don't forget it.
doing it for exposure is a lie.
