THREAD horror Twitter is trying to cancel @BaruchelNDG for criticizing modern horror in a director’s statement

2 things:
1. Have you ever read a director’s statement? It’s purpose is to boldly state how a director will approach the project they’re directing, often by stating 1/
the thesis of their film, quite emphatically. Which is OFTEN antithetical to what is currently being offered.

Usually for investors/production companies to see that they have a strong POV and will deliver a movie that has never been seen before... it will be fresh 2/
and exciting. The point of view must be strong and opinionated. Leading us to believe that this person knows what they are doing!

Jay did that.

He said ‘A’ isn’t working, I’m offering ‘B’ (a fresh take that exemplifies the thesis of my movie). So get over yourselves
3/
his opinion is SUBJECTIVE! Who cares that he feels differently than some of you... it’s his right to have whatever opinion he wants.

2. Jay is genuinely one of the nicest people in our shitty industry. Seriously, it’s almost gross how kind he is.

3. Okay there’s 3.
4/
all great art is born out of reaction! In fact, art’s sole purpose is to be reactionary!! Think about it. Horror movies are counterculture.

If you’ve seen @RandomActsMovie you’ll know that it’s meta AF. Which is in of itself... wait for it REACTIONARY.

5/
So how about, instead of trying to cancel a horror fan who made a horror film because he had a reaction to modern horror

Just say: “hey man, I totally disagree with your opinion, here”

... and move on.
