The SBC, thru Caring Well, confronted sexual abuse in 2019. The ERLC just released a helpful hiring guide. But a lesson learned from Liberty U is that board members hold ultimate accountability. Here are 10 ways the @SBCExecComm can take accountability for SBC sexual abuse. >
Since the @SBCExecComm holds entities responsible, manages budgets & sets policies, it has the depth & capability to:

1. Continually monitor abuse in SBC churches
2. Study the relatively shallow nature of Baptist ordination & how this affects the relocation of abusers >
3. Recommend an ordination process that better enables revocation for cause
4. Create a database / tracking method to keep abusers from moving thru the SBC
5. Insist that the Credentials Committee remove more churches not in compliance w/ racial & sexual abuse standards >
6. Hear directly from all survivors who wish to talk, in person, and absorb their stories and the pain incurred
7. Apologize on behalf of the SBC and take immediate action within state conventions where warranted -- anywhere abusers or enablers are currently employed >
8. Acknowledge both men & women (boys & girls) have been harmed within SBC churches
9. Insist that seminaries provide a consistent & rigorous curriculum on trauma, mental health, mental illness, spiritual abuse, & the medical model of behavioral health, including medications >
10. Act as moral and spiritual leaders and respond to this crisis as though these survivors were your own wives, daughters, sons, or brothers.

Yes, we're in a pandemic, which increases sexual abuse. Be the board that makes a difference, @SBCExecComm. I have faith that you will.
