Allowing my oldest to go to in-person instruction for one class a day. They start next week. Tonight, half the alphabet was scheduled to come in at 5:30 with mask requirements, to walk the school to find classes. 1/
The school did a great job handing out maps with directions for traffic flow, which doors for entry OR exit, etc.. Guess how many parents set the example for their kids by following CLEARLY LABELED DIRECTIONAL SIGNS EVERYWHERE? 2/
Short answer? I was one, much to my daughter’s chagrin (her one class is on the tail end, so she effectively has to circle the whole courtyard before reaching class - but this Mama doesn’t play)
I think mayyyybbbeeee two other families appeared to be on board. 3/
And don’t even get me started on the mask wearing... IT HAS TO COVER YOUR NOSE TOO, KAREN. One family waltzed in, not a mask on any of them, and the school official (who had spare masks in her hand) did nothing to prevent this - though every email and sign stated MANDATORY. 4/
THIS. This is why we can’t have nice things. If you can’t shoulder a minor inconvenience, like wearing a mask properly or following the flow of traffic, YOU ARE PART OF WHY THIS MISERY WON’T END. 5/
We should be teaching our kids ADAPTABILITY.
COMMUNITY.
GREATER GOOD.

Don’t blame younger generations for being “undisciplined” and “entitled” when that’s the example YOU set. 6/
And don’t at me about not knowing their situations. I’ve known many of these people for 20+ years. Where I live, we might have a sizable population, but trust when I say we function like a gossipy small town. (It’s actually SUPER annoying) 7/
So... now that THAT is off my chest.

Do your part, folks. Be better for your kids, if nothing else. You don’t have to like rules to acknowledge they are sometimes necessary. LIKE IN A PANDEMIC. 8/
I’d love to peel out in my minivan (like I *might* have done when I was a teenager in my mom’s minivan) but maturity and life experience has taught me that while I might hate certain speed limits... 9/
ultimately they are in place for the safety and well-being of my community - SO MY FEELINGS DON’T MATTER.

Now wear your mask, smile with your eyes, follow the flow of traffic, and let’s stop making life harder than it has to be.

Good? Good.
