If you look at the mirror at night, you’d see spirits, and in come cases, you might unleash them into your house

Stand facing away from a whirlwind, use a mirror to observe it, you’d see the spirit behind it.

It has hair with very thick strands that covers its face, one leg, and one arm that swings a whip over its head & causes the wind

At a 7-junction, In my village, here’s a palm tree with only seven branches, that always appear whole the next day, even if it’s cut down & burnt.

The tree bleeds if it’s cut by someone who’s not from the village.
& yes, the person bleeds from all their bodily openings & dies.

A bridge was built successfully by a British man after several unfortunate attempts by many others (which results in their deaths) because a mermaid doesn’t want disturbance across her home.
He tricked the mermaid into captivity.

He did it like:

Mermaid: hey handsome... no buildings over my waters, bye
Brit: I know... I know... I just wanted you to know I’m more powerful than you
MM: how so?
B: I can enter this bottle & come out
MM: pfft you can’t

B: *enters inside the bottle & comes out*

MM: well that’s fucking easy, I can too.
*enters bottle*

B: *closes the bottle*

Btw I figured it was a lie when I moved 2 states away & I heard exactly the same story about another bridge

A town close to mine had their annual festival (they worshipped a huge python)
Of which, they usually have a lady dance with the snake (voluntarily or not) they usually tell the lady the year she’d be the one to do it, right from her birth.

My friends aunt, XXXX, was the nominee for this years “snake” Grammy, but she was in Italy. Obviously because they’re Christians & they want nothing to do with it.

She was the chosen one, so when the time came, she went all “zombie mode”.

Abandoned everything, booked a flight & came straight to the village, right in time for the preparations (14days before the festival) & stayed with the chief priest for the purification.
She was a zombie all these while.

Her family only knew about it when her mum was told “XXXX, your daughter danced with the snake, in public, yesterday evening”
& it’s all done so she’s back to her senses now. Mum almost died

Years later the truth came. Turns out XXXX just wanted to connect with her roots, & she was perfectly sane when she did all this

Which reminds me of this other one,

At the back of my house, there’s a swamp connected to a very thick forest.
I can’t tell if this one is a lie.
To me, it’s probably more true than not, because 2 totally unrelated people saw it almost a decade apart.

There’s an enormous snake with two horns (like a cow) living in the swamp behind my house, allegedly

1st sighting was around 2007, a woman who had a cassava farm there just wanted to rest for some mins after she did some work,
She laid on a “fallen tree” there only to find out the wood was cold & moving.
The head of the “tree” turned & faced her but didn’t hurt her,

It just moved away.
But he shock made her seriously ill for days, of which she died after telling as many people she can.

She was a close friend to my grandma, people thought she was probably just “seeing things” because she had a pre-existing condition... me involved

Until a fisherman saw it some years ago, and ran away abandoning all his tools there breathing like he just saw a demon.
My neighbor sitting outside told him to talk & he said he threw his fishing trap into the water & was trying to tie it to the branch of a “fallen tree”...

....When half of the tree got up & faced him & opened it’s eyes. He found out it was the horn of a really big snake. The snake didn’t hurt him either, it just moved away into the water covered with vegetation.

Another lie:

If I put the dried rheum (dried tears from sleep) of a dog in my own eyes, I’d be able to see spirits.

If a black bird flies into your house & dies immediately or days later, know someone from your family is about to die.

Pregnant women hid from the previous king of my mothers village, because if their eyes meet, the pregnancy boils, liquefies & flows out on the spot.

His eyes makes the ladies wet

There’s a river in this our country, that when you pass through with a boat, a mermaid gives free food to everyone in it.
The food is harmless & delicious, just don’t go away with her plate.

In my mum’s village, when you cook outside, the food doubles. But don’t eat it, half belongs to spirits living close by.
Just cook, & when you’re done, turn away from the pot & say “the food is ready, come & take your own”

Then after 0.5 seconds, the food goes back to the normal quantity you cooked.

I be like, “spirits got stomachs now?
They why don’t have theiy own damn kitchens to cook their fucking meals themselves?”
