I've always wanted to say this, and now that this The Poppy War discourse is brewing, here it is: sometimes books are smarter than their readers. Like you need a certain level of knowledge and understanding to not miss the historical significance and subtle nods books make. (1/3)
Just because you don't understand the motivations behind a character's behaviour or you think the plot is 'boring' because it doesn't utilize western tropes...NEWSFLASH, maybe you're glossing over its well-integrated usage of history and politics (2/3)
that would make little sense if you don't have the background knowledge to identify it. And hey, maybe that just means the book isn't for you, but it's far from being bad or unentertaining. (3/3)
