Week 2. Between teaching 3 classes today and troubleshooting syllabi, Blackboard and Zoom issues with students, I got neither any grading nor course prep nor, vitally, tenure portfolio writing done before leaving the office. So I have a French press full of coffee steeping.
The hyflex load is not triple the work, but it is double--full online and full synchronous, with the online synchronous being added tech support, multitasking, time and effort.
With 5 classes I cannot do everything I need to to teach effectively.

That's not saying even that with service, advising, research, family, and sleep. That's at all. It's not enough time in a day.
I say this not because there is a solution--we are all in this mess--but because once again I am overwhelmed with just this with salary and benefits.

Think about your and everyone else's adjuncts and VAPs and contract lecturers.

This is not ok.
I would also add that doubling the workload for the same pay is neither ok nor sustainable. Adninistrations need to figure out what they are doing for the spring soon, and it has to be asking less than they are now.
I say "have to" because either they will or faculty with mutiny, quietly on their own or collectively. Because we've already stretched ourselves, especially at teaching schools, and were running on thin, thin margins before. And now, well...
Our students are also stretched as far as they can go without breaking. So while I ask for kindness for faculty and staff, let us all be kind to students.
