Something I realized near the end of bootcamp was that the education I was receiving was foundational knowledge. +

On it's own, it might be enough to help me land a job somewhere, but there are so many graduates coming out with the same foundation, I'd need to set myself apart! +
So in the last month of attending @junocollege 's web dev bootcamp, I started studying job listings when I needed a break from coding. Spending a few minutes just scrolling through qualification requirements, and industries. +
#networking #industryResearch #selfEvaluation
Some common things I found:
- #React/ #Vue/ #Angular
- #Ruby/ #Python
- #Wordpress/ #PHP/ #Laraval
- #Shopify
- #NestJS
- #GraphQL
and a few others.
I knew 1 of these, and with not a great amount of confidence.+
I had to ask myself some #toughQuestions:
- Why would someone #hireme?
- What do I have to offer as a fresh from #bootcampGraduate?
- What makes me think I'm worth taking a risk on?
- Were my existing #projects enough?

After witnessing graduates #findingJobs, and after getting my own. I can answer these questions a bit better now.
1⃣ Someone WILL take a risk on you, even with just the foundational knowledge and skill. But it helps if you are learning more already.
2⃣ I've learned #JavaScript, #Jquery, #React, and how to use them with #API's, #firebase and manipulate data within 2.5 months. Under pressure to succeed, and much stress and anxiety.
What does this mean? I can learn and apply what I learn on the go. I am #adaptable. All +++
3⃣ As a new graduate, I have learned the latest in coding technology as my foundational basis. I have no old/bad habits to break, and my code is #modular, #readable, and well enforced with #bestPractices. +
4⃣ This one was tough, and for a while I didn't know. Over time, I realized that I, just like any other had their own flavour to add to any #team. The thing that makes me uniquely me, makes me the perfect fit for a team out there, and they're out there, looking for me.
5⃣ For me, the answer was both a yes, and a no. I strove alongside my team-mates to finish #projects as best we can, as polished as we could. And at the end, they were definitely show pieces. However, I also took on wordpress, php, relearning JavaScript and seeking to strengthen+
my foundational knowledge, and test my capacity to code without guidance or help from my instructors, cohort-peers, or mentors. +
What I've learned, is at the end of the day, it's a combination of skill, an enthusiasm towards learning and improving, as well as a #cultureFit based on you: your personality, and what you value in your work environment.
Keep learning, love the process. You'll get there!
Congratulations on graduating!
Your journey is only just beginning, and I can't wait to see what you achieve!
