Since it was brought to my attention by @JasonAmadi that many fans are unaware that we have details on these things now, here's a quick thread on what we know about UFC expenses for the very small percentage of people that are interested in these things. 1/
/ Thanks to the antirust lawsuit as well as a few documents that managed to be leaked out mostly from the sale we have some info on UFC expenses. We know their revenues per year and their EBITDA for pretty much the last 20 years. So that's a good start
/ As far as expenses go we have one big expense that we know the total for pretty much every year since Zuffa bought them and that is their total fighter costs per year. (revenue - fighter costs = total other expenses) https://www.bloodyelbow.com/2020/2/3/20922496/ufc-lawsuit-docs-reveal-more-details-ufc-business-structure-fighter-pay-class-action-business-news
/ Thanks to the lawsuit we have average fighter costs, production cost, and other event costs per year from 2008-2013. We also have breakdowns of some select events https://www.bloodyelbow.com/2019/9/23/20858442/zuffa-finances-the-economics-of-a-ufc-event
/ A filing also included details on the non fighter costs and events revenues for every Zuffa event for 2009 and 2010. It's a little dated compared to today's model but gives us a historical perspective on their costs vs revenues.
/ We also have some financials that break down their annual costs by categories. These are pretty complete for 2012-2015 (they also include projections going forward.) Attached are some annual totals for each of the major categories
/ While these don't tell us what individual events cost it does give us a pretty good idea what their spending is on average. For example we know that there was 31 UFC events and 5 SF events for Zuffa in 2012 and their live event production costs were $49m total.
/ That would be almost $1.4 million per event. Fairly close to the $1.2 million Dana White said it cost to put on an event. https://twitter.com/marc_raimondi/status/444181291617902592
/ I also see people bringing up capital expenditures. "None of this matters without CapEx" is how they usually phrase it. Well we also have Zuffa's CapEx for a number of years and it just isn't that big. Not nearly large enough to really transform their financial picture.
10) anyways there's a lot more details that I plan on eventually compiling in one place. But until then you got this twitter thread for your Sherdog forum arguments.
