Greece reports 233 new cases in the last 24 hours.
A small increase from yesterday, where 207 cases were reported.
Hard to predict what may happen in the UK quarantine review following Scotland’s decision.
Statistically, Greece is better than yesterday!

Greece’s addition to Scotland’s quarantine list is still bizarre.
When considering the latest figures, Greece is actually looking better today than it was yesterday!
This puts pressure on the UK government to follow an approach similar to the Welsh.

As of this evening, Greece’s 7-day cumulative case rate per 100,000 people is 13.8.
Yesterday, this figure was 14.4.

The reason for the decrease in the 7-day case rate per 100,000 people is because we’ve seen less new cases today in comparison to last Wednesday, August 26th.
Today we saw 233 new cases.
Last Wednesday, 293 cases.
This is extremely positive to see!

Slightly less tests performed today - 14,154 in comparison to yesterday’s report, where 16,979 were carried out.
Nevertheless, still a sizeable amount, and nothing to be concerned about.

Despite Scotland’s decision to add Greece to its quarantine list, statistically, Greece is in a far better position than other countries.
Take Portugal , where as of this evening, the 7-day case rate per 100,00 people is 22.9.

This puts pressure on the UK government to either:
a) rule out placing Greece on the quarantine list entirely.
b) follow the approach of the Welsh government, and place regions in Greece which *MAY* be a cause for concern onto the quarantine list…

Ideally we’d all love option A!
However, option B is more pragmatic.
If the UK government deems its necessary… it is FAR better than adding the entirety of Greece to the UK quarantine list…
… when it remains safer than many other European holiday destinations!

Scotland’s decision does make it harder to predict what may happen tomorrow.
However, adding Greece would defy the UK government’s own guidance.
The 7-day case rate per 100,000 people hasn’t surpassed 20 - a key factor in UK government decision-making.

And the Welsh haven’t added the entirety of Greece to their quarantine list - only Zante.
Although not ideal, far more pragmatic and sensible.

Almost two weeks ago, we saw Scotland take a different approach to the rest of the UK with Switzerland .
Switzerland was added to Scotland’s quarantine list one week before the rest of the UK .

Subsequently, I’d be very surprised if the entirety of Greece were to be added to the UK quarantine list tomorrow.
The UK government would be going against its own guidance!

It’s more likely the UK government will mention AVOIDING specific regions where infection rates are higher...
… and perhaps adding individual regions to the quarantine list.

And to round this thread off…
Statistically, Greece is in a better position than other nations.
The 7-day case rate per 100,000 people (a key statistic in decision-making) is far below the 20 threshold.

This is a very good thing.
I’d be far more concerned if it were above this… !
More tweets to come as the situation develops!
Thanks!
