Watch Jordan Lenchitz speak eloquently on prorating stipends in the College of Music at @floridastate , and how much of a GAs ANNUAL SALARY gets eaten away by this practice.

Does this infuriate you? Because it absolutely should!! Want to do something about it? This could be the year we #EndTheProration at #FSU; and the way we through that is through COLLECTIVE ACTION. Want to do your part? Then SHOW UP at bargaining THIS Friday, 9/4, from 2-4PM!
While I& #39;ve got you here, let& #39;s talk about our contract, our "Collective Bargaining Agreement" (CBA). As a UNIONIZED Graduate Assistant body, YOU, the #FSU #GradStudent are protected by the "CBA." Never heard of it before? No worries! It& #39;s on our website, http://fsugau.org"> http://fsugau.org  !
Over the 2020-2021 academic year, your union is going to put out explainers for EVERY article of our contract (there& #39;s 24 of them!). But, until then, let& #39;s take a quick look at stipends.

The minimum stipend at #FSU for #GradStudents is $15,600
That translates to an even $20.00. So if you& #39;re a graduate assistant at FSU and on a .5FTE appointment (20 work hours a week, NOT including your time as a student!!), you can expect to make about $800 a paycheck. If you& #39;re on the minimum.
(Then there& #39;s taxes, of course.)
But more egregious than taxes is that colleges and departments across #FSU can pay their graduate assistants LESS than this contract-mandated minimum via a process called "Proration." CONFUSED? Here& #39;s a video explainer on it! https://www.facebook.com/fsugau/videos/590560841660128/">https://www.facebook.com/fsugau/vi...
This has gone on for too long, and negates the entire REASON for having a minimum stipend in the contract in the first place. That is why, this year YOUR union is determined to #EndTheProration!

Want to help? SHOW UP to bargaining this Friday, 9/4, 2-4PM!
