Interestingly enough, Havertz doesn’t tend to score from outside of the box and has stats similar to a fox in the box type striker. Saying that, it is yet to be seen how he will fit in Lampards plans, whether he will play in a central midfield role, a striker or a right winger.
Havertz was utilised mostly in the CF position as a false nine in a 3-4-3, similar to Firmino’s role in the Liverpool team.
We can see from the image below how deep Havertz falls to not only receive the ball, but to make space for the wing backs to take advantage of.

Again, in the photo below, we can see another example of Havertz in the false nine position, in an attempt to create an overload on the right wing. Alternatively, he can receive the ball and use his dribbling skills to evade the defenders and create a goal scoring opportunity.
Havertz had 7.89xA (expected assists) in the Bundesliga this season — the 7th best in the league — but crucially almost 40pc more than the 2nd best amongst his team. That calculated 0.33xA/90 (expected assists per 90 minutes) compares with 0.09xA/90 in the 2018/19 season.
Havertz was his sides leading goalscorer but also the sides main creator.
Havertz averages 0.74 goals per game and 0.43 assists per game in 2020, which compared to the worlds elite looks a little like this

Havertz comes into a Chelsea side enriched with attacking talent in Ziyech, Werner and Pulisic, which spells danger for any opposition defence. With such an abundance of talent, Havertz will blossom in such surroundings.
The two pie charts below show the statistical differences when Havertz is deployed as a forward compared to a deeper role in midfield or on the wing.
A significant underlying strength of his is shots created from open play passes, ranking 20th in Europe with 3.62 per minute.
This abodes well for Timo Werner, who comes to Chelsea off the back of 34 goals in 45 games.

Whilst most of his time in midfield is spent in and advanced role, playing as a forward has showcased other exciting elements to his game, like his heading ability, which is no surprise at 6’2” tall. Below we have an example of this; an impressive header from better movement

The chart below highlights Havertz as a frequent yet accurate shooter, also placing in the 90th percentile for non penalty xG per 90.
To summarise, his ability to seek out goal scoring positions and his prowess in front of goal are brilliant. He really has the potential to become one of the deadliest strikers in Europe.
Which begs the question, where does Lampard see fit?
Which begs the question, where does Lampard see fit?
If he is to occupy the right wing position, it would be a waste of his talent. As dynamic as he is, it would not get the most out of him, unless given the freedom to come inside.
If he is to play as a centre mid, we would probably see a fair reduction in attacking returns as his license to get forward is diminished.
If he is to come in as a striker alongside Timo Werner, we will see one of the best strike partnerships the league has ever seen...
