Puget Sound vehicle owners - FYI

So the vehicle tab renewal came up, and I was shocked to see the amount for the vehicles. I looked up the calculations on how they formulate the RTA taxes and noticed the associated vehicle value estimate they used was DOUBLE the actual value.

The paperwork from the WSDOT licensing page states they are supposed to use KBB and/or NADA for their car values, however when I called and spoke to an agent at the department of licensing, she stated the value came from "the vehicle manufacturer& #39;s retail value"

So,

I did my own valuation searches on http://KBB.com"> http://KBB.com  and http://nadaguides.com"> http://nadaguides.com  and verified the value was indeed half of what they used. My vehicle is a 2016 model, and interestingly, the price they used for value is EXACTLY the same as a brand new, 2020 model.

So, if and when you get those vehicle tab renewals, check the numbers. Find the value and see if what they claim is 1.1% of the NADA & KBB values, or if it& #39;s much higher. I& #39;ve put in a grievance and I& #39;m waiting for someone to call me in order to go over the issue.
