The gardai have really screwed over this moment for a community in mourning by prioritising traffic...I'm not surprised but am absolutely disgusted.
Oh and yeah, the Debenhams workers (predominantly white) got priority too and then asked the mourning community to raise a fist with them is solidarity
Mourners are gathered at the site of the incident and gardaí are again emphasising the importance of "keeping the road clear"...for motorists.
Thiago was killed because society is structured to prioritise motorists. In the very moment of memorialising, in showing Thiago love, care and respect from his community - the gardaí protected the very thing that killed him and I believe that to be a tremendous act of violence
And if no one minds I'd really rather this thread was kept focused on commenting on the act of memorialisation rather than be fed into (correct and good) twitter discourse on general road policing re VRUs even though I know it is very relevant. Thank you.
