My 22 year old kid, a college student, who’s studying to be an engineer, tweeted that “tech nerds” should learn soft skills and GROWN ASS MEN in her mentions are shouting that “nerd” is derogatory while also referring to her as a “cunt”

Wonder why women leave tech?

Wonder why some would want to before they’ve even started?

Do better. Y’all are disgusting.

Also, I’m not engaging in any conversations trying to justify the behavior. If you can think of a situation where a young woman deserves to be called a cunt you’re welcome to be on my block list.

“Name names”

First of all, I’m not interested in giving these people any personalized attention. They’re blocked. They’re reported.

Furthermore, “name names” is a nice way to say “prove it” — believe women.

Don’t make us rehash our trauma for your entertainment.

Lastly, we’re no longer discussing whether or not “nerd” is derogatory.

I don’t think it is, but some folks do, and that’s okay.

We’re discussing supposedly grown men who have real jobs in this industry calling young women cunts.

The fact that I have to spell that out

My block finger is hot.

Pretending to be shocked by this isn’t impressing me.

While there are many amazing and supportive men in this industry there are also MANY abusive ones and a large number of your female colleagues have stories.

So being ‘shocked’ just tells me you’re ignoring it.
