A thread on my preferred Arsenal line up next season. This thread will include my favoured system and what role each player will play in the 2020/21 season.
Firstly, the system I believe Arteta will play is the 4-3-3. This system allows both full backs to go forward to create chances whilst also providing a solid backbone with a disciplined DM and 2 very strong central defenders.
LINEUP. With the transfer window still very much in motion, and Arsenal being very active in it, this is the lineup I believe we will be seeing by the end of the window.
Leno, AMN, Saliba, Gabriel, Tierney, Xhaka, Partey, Aouar, Pépé, Lacazette, Aubameyang.
Bernd Leno, still our best goalkeeper. Excellent shot stopper and a very capable ball playing keeper. Short passing is excellent, one attribute I can see Leno improving is his long passing to see him become the perfect all round modern keeper. (1/2)
Bernd will be essential to Mikel’s preference to play out from the back to create overlaps and gaps in the final third after beating the initial press.
MAITLAND-NILES. With Bellerin looking more and more likely to be pushed out of the door, Ainsley will become our first choice Right back in a 4 back system. His excellent 1v1 defending ability and reading of the game makes him a perfect fullback (1/2)
contrary to what people seem to believe. His composure and excellent athleticism will mean he can be a threat from both ends of the pitch, forming a great link up with Pepe on the right. Whilst providing width, he will allow Pépé to come inside to score and create goals (2/2)
WILLIAM SALIBA. The RCB of this system, Saliba will be pivotal to this system working. Whilst playing next to an aggressive LCB, Saliba can act as a sweeper in defence to bring a solid force, whilst also being a colossal player in the air. (1/2)
And in possession, Saliba has an eye to dribble with the ball to pin the opposition back and with a sharp pass will be able to find Arsenal’s technical midfielders in great positions, a big season ahead for the 19 year old. (2/2)
GABRIEL MAGALHAES. Completing a young but experienced CB partnership. Gabriel is an exceptional defender with superb technique in both standing and slide tackling. His ability to spray long passes will prove to be essential with our fast attackers in behind.
KIERAN TIERNEY. The final defender of the 4. A consistent performer that is brilliant in both attack and defence, Tierney proved to be a great asset in Arsenal’s FA Cup run by setting up a goal in the Semi-Final and also helping Aubameyang win a penalty in the final (1/2)
Able to be a disciplined full back but also an attacking threat, he provides solidity and also an assist specialist. His overlapping ability will allow Aubameyang to come more centrally and closer to the goal to do what he does best. (2/2)
GRANIT XHAKA. After completing an unlikely Arsenal turnaround, Xhaka has become one of the most important players in the team. A deep lying playmaker but also a defensive anchor, Xhaka is perfect for the 4-3-3 system. Sitting behind 2 further midfielder. (1/2)
Xhaka will be able to control tempo to help Arsenal control leads but also add rhythm to sequences when they’re chasing the game. Can see Granit being one of the best Arsenal players next season. (2/2)
THOMAS PARTEY. The first of the rumoured players in this thread, Partey is a must for Arteta this season. A great box to box midfielder who will play in front of Xhaka to add goals to midfield, whilst also being able to sit back to become a 2-man pivot with Granit (1/2)
A great athlete that would become a huge asset at both ends of the pitch, Partey could prove to be one of the very best in his position if he is able to complete a dream move to Arsenal this summer, with his release clause calling to Edu and Mikel. (2/2)
HOUSSEM AOUAR. With an excellent final ball, world class dribbling ability and even a defensive understanding, Aouar will complete an excellently balanced and able midfield to compete. He will play a fluid role where he has a free roam role in possession but a restricted one(1/2)
Out of it, playing along Partey to add another body in Arteta’s very combative and aggressive midfield system. Houssem will prove to be the missing piece of the jigsaw for Arsenal’s creativity issues. (2/2)
NICOLAS PEPE. A big season ahead for Arsenal’s record signing. With this system, Nico will finally be able to play on the final shoulder of defenders as Maitland-Niles provides width and able creative midfielders like Aouar playing balls in behind to use his electric pace (1/2)
Expect goals and assists added to his game next year in a very prolific season for the Ivorian. Could enter the conversation for being one of the best wingers in the league if everything goes as expected for Pépé. (2/2)
ALEXANDRE LACAZETTE. The link man in this system. As time has gone on, Lacazette has become more of a false 9, caring more about bringing other into the game than being the man to get the final touch in a team move. Lacazette will allow both wingers to come centrally (1/2)
to run at centre backs and beat them with pace and skill that both Pépé and Aubameyang possesses. Expect a more prolific season from the Frenchman, whilst not topping goal scoring charts as his role changes. (2/2)
PIERRE-EMERICK AUBAMEYANG. The talisman for Mikel’s gunners. Not much to say about this guy, other than to expect a lot of goals. The added quality in midfield will mean he will get more chances than last year (16th most in the league) Another golden boot may be pending.
END OF THREAD. Hope you enjoyed this thread of Arsenal’s expected team for the 2020/21 season. Looks like an exciting one for Arteta’s reds.
