Trying to help someone convince others that cameras on does not improve engagement or achievement. I didn't think there was, since most eLearning hasn't historically been synchronous-obsessed pre-covid, but still checking. Plz cc @S_A_N_A_A
It occurred to me that what may require some research is the impact of student cameras on/off on the *teacher's* own engagement and self-image while teaching, rather than students themselves. I am not more or less engaged as a student by the status of my own video on/off, but 1/2
2/2 as a teacher/presenter, we are energized often by the reactions of our audiences. And while camera on can give us encouraging smiles and head nods or even confused faces which are useful... we can have many other proxies for engagement like text chat, audio contribution, Gdoc
