Can we please stop wrapping Jesus' sacrificial atonement in language of racial oppression as if he was a victim of the same kind of state violence that is being decried today. No, he willingly left his heavenly abode to subject himself to death for God's redemptive purposes. /1
Jesus was no victim. He is the victor!Yes, he condescended to his creation for us. But we should stop trying to make him the mascot for contemporary justice agendas. It diminishes him. He's so much bigger than that. /2
A final note: yes, Jesus suffered under Pontius Pilate & executed by the state. But what was the emphasis? His sacrificial death for the sake of reconciling man to God NOT the actions of government perpetrating injustice. They were just players in God's redemptive narrative. /3
