Been sat on the sidelines about discussion around recruiting/promoting the historicals hobby and I have some throughts that I wanted to put out there...primarily because as a relatively recent arrival in the historical side of things I can think of things that would have helped..
..encourage me.

1. The non WD press could feature a better mix - they are mostly historical with adverts for fantasy/sci-fi. If the mix... was a little more balanced it could encourage people sidestepping from GW (etc) into other fantasy/sci-fi to buy the mags and they then..
See more of the options out there - including the wonderful historical side of the wargaming hobby.

2. If people want to play Commando Comics style WW2 or 300 style Greeks v Persians then that’s OK. Not every historical gamer needs to endlessly research specifics like what...
... shade of leather boots were worn in 1941 compared to 1939 or whatever. Fair play to those who go that deep and I love to see it - but it’s OK to not do it too.

3. Osprey Blue Books are a god-send for the gamer branching out a little; very affordable and often with low...
... model counts. Perfect way to encourage someone to explore a little without breaking the bank (thanks to these I’ve got 1798 Irish Rebellion, Anglo-Sikh wars, ACW, Irish Confederate, Crusaders and Saracens and more - all from a range of mini manufacturers).

4. The need...
...for a positive site/forum that caters to any and all gamers - if I search for a miniature sources for a project you can bet you’ll end up at a rather horrible (both vibe and look) website. We need more content out there via blogs, forums and good, friendly websites as a...
...window to the hobby.

5. Far too many miniature manufacturers websites are absolutely woeful and in many cases totally off putting to browse, let along buy from. It is 2020 but from some minis places you’d think geocities level of design was still acceptable.

Anyway, just...
...had to get that out of my brain to free thinking space up a little! I’m sure everyone will have their own thoughts on this topic!
