The reserves are as much the result of a social compact as they are good governance. Have a care that the people could (and still can), at the ballot box, withdraw their permission for a ruling party to collect (or use) taxes and other revenue in the first place.
This railing against "inheritors coming into a fortune" grates with me precisely because this "fortune" was the blood, sweat and tears of all. This idea, repeated ad nauseam, that only one elite group can be trusted to manage what all worked for calls Animal Farm to mind.
I have no wish to know how much is in the reserves. I have this wish, though: that the ruling party would stop continually putting their achievement of the people's basic expectations up on a pedestal.
No one is rewarded for doing what they ought. The reserves, to me, are the result of the Government doing what they ought. Again, that other countries have not managed to do so speaks as much (if not more) to the people accepting it, than to the wisdom of the ruling classes.
So, "inheritors coming into a fortune"? We are a new generation and it is fair for us to ask if it now needs to be used in different ways. You may wish to keep the old ways to cultivate the elite classes in your power base, but please don't reflexively impute fecklessness to us.
