What you are seeing around us is America collapsing under the weight of its hatred of the poor and minorities.
While it is easy and comforting to blame all the current strife on the White House, at some point real soon America is going to have to sit with the fact that its priggish NIMBY response to every effort to support this society's vulnerable for decades is returning dividends.
America decided to convince itself that its systemic problems were just too big to solve and that it shouldn't really bother engaging in futility.
That way it could just exempt itself from even having to bother trying.
And it told everyone what a good job it was doing anyway.

It had the ability to solve its biggest problems in a single generation.
And it decided that it would rather spend its money on making more money for people with lots of money.
And now scratches its head as its cancers metastasize.

Poverty is a solvable problem. Not in decades or centuries, but within a single Presidential Administration. Practically. Feasibly.

I'm not saying that one President can do this. They can't.
But America could in one term.

The lie is that these things are so entrenched and immovable that any effort could only possibly achieve modest results.
But this has always been a deliberate and cynical lowering of the bar.
If people don't expect to see change they won't complain when they don't.
