STANLEY KUBRICK: UNREALIZED PROJECTS
Stanley Kubrick was a brilliant director. He released some of the greatest movies in film history, but he had projects that were never completed. Today we will tell you the story of one of them, ARYAN PAPERS.
In 1976, Stanley Kubrick planned a film contextualized during the Holocaust.
In the early 1990', he tried to adapt Wartime Lies, a book about a polish woman who tries to save his family by finding the aryan papers. Written by Louis Begley, author of About Schmidt (Jack Nicholson)
During the pre-production, Stanley Kubrick considered to cast Julia Roberts (Pretty Woman) or Uma Thurman (Pulp Fiction) for the main character, the polish aunt Tania.
Finally, the chosen was Johanna ter Steege as the aunt Tania and Joseph Mazzello (Jurassic Park, Bohemian Rhapsody) as the young Maciek.
With the release of Steven Spielberg's Schindler's List (1993), Stanley Kubrick left the project because of the similarities between the projects and the shared historical context.
In 2009, filmmaker and Stanley Kubrick's brother-in-law Jan Harlan wanted to rescue Kubrick's failed project and bring it to our screens. Harlan wanted Roman Polanski (Chinatown) or Ang Lee (Brokeback Mountain) to direct the film.
Nothing has been specified yet.
