It is WILD to see multiple people already absolutely zero on on a tiny "error" (in their minds) that John made by highlighting the comment about race in the article that just came out because it makes it clear how many people aren't actually clicking through to see what he said.
Like, full offense: antiblackness is so insidious that it has folks (I went looking and it is... a relatively significant amount from different people in and out of the immediate fandom) rushing to chastise him for erasing Kelly... when the quotes are about antiblackness AND
He actually talks about what he can about her experience and how Lucasfilm let them both down.

But here's the thing: the people commenting that he's erasing Kelly... are ignoring that this is an interview oriented around antiblackness and they're still expecting him to do
labor that is NEVER also shouldered by his costars - not specifically Kelly who dealt with racism and misogyny, but ANY of them. Daisy and Adam don't get held accountable for their very obvious lack of allyship.

And that's how antiblackness works:
John is being brave and bold by talking about how antiblackness (from fans and Lucasfilm) shaped his experience with Star Wars and how him speaking out against systemic antiblackness made him worry about his career and lots of people instinctively got caught up in antiblackness
By getting hypercritical about how he was somehow erasing Kelly (who he talks about in the piece) in an interview/piece that is primarily about HIS experiences with something she actually cannot experience because she's not... Black.

I just need folks to pause and think...
In the first block of text in this tweet, he is CLEARLY talking about his initial casting and the backlash that happened once it was revealed that he was the male lead and a storm trooper. Oscar Isaac was never hit with that racist backlash for TFA https://twitter.com/jelliclesav/status/1301082165115891712?s=20
And in the second, as he moves along his timeline to TLJ and TROS he touches briefly on Kelly. But... expecting him to hit the brakes to zero in on HER experience (which he can't know or talk about in detail) is... a bad choice that some folks have decided to make today.
